I didn’t post much last week. Sorry. Two bits of news for you guys that you may of missed

In case you weren’t paying attention THQ is going to be showing off it’s future game, Warhammer 40k Online, at E3 this year. I’m not a Warhammer tabletop guy at all. I don’t have the figurines or the books but whenever I see someone get excited about this on the forums by saying “Blood for the Blood God”; it gets me a little giddy.

For those of you who pay attention, Mortal Online just launched their open beta. I’m not even going to give you a link because the game is shit.

Edit: Check out the comments on Rerollz News youtube video on Mortal Online. There are some… interesting? …people out there.

Have fun.

I just got the Tera Online December Newsletter in my mailbox and I figured I’d let everyone know because you really care. I don’t think many people are following this game like SWTOR or FFXIV but it’s worth keeping your eye on.

Inside the newsletter you’ll find class videos and other dev updates. Bluehole Studios was created by many of the people that brought you Lineage II.

Other Newsletters:
Mortal Online
Warhammer put one out but I can’t seem to link it. It’s their 50th though.

Talk about a crappy weekend; my NY Giants lose and I get sick on Monday. However, I did get some fun news in my inbox. Right now you may be receiving a free trial offer for Lord of the Rings Online’s new expansion if you’ve played sometime in the past. I don’t know if this is any different from a normal free trial, but it make give you access to the new classes and content an otherwise normal free trial wouldn’t.

Another item that came across my virtual desk is an offer to try Age of Conan from levels 1 through 20 forever, for free. This offer ends January 1st, so register quick. The first 20 levels were pretty damn well done. If you havn’t played the game yet, this is the time to do it. It’s worth your time and shit, it’s free.

Also you might of known this already, but Warhammer lets you play their first tier for free as well. No time limit on that one. The first tier was the best one anyway.

So if you’re bored or not hung up on World of Warcraft’s awesome new Looking for Dungeon feature, then give a few old games a shot for free.

w40k

Warhammer 40,000 MMO by Vigil Games has leaked some concept art of its upcoming game to Kotaku. The concept art features art by Billy Wardlaw, an environment and character artist at Vigil. With some added input by Kolby Jukes, who has recently worked on Mass Effect 2.

The 3D direction they are heading is a step up from Warhammer: Age of Reckoning. That cartoon, over-exaggerated look is still nicely worked into the better detailed textures though. Keeping that direction is key in my opinion. In regards to WoW, it makes the game run as fast as you want it and isn’t in demand of very expensive computers.

schadenfreude

Many of you may already know, but just a while ago Mark Jacobs was let go from EA/Mythic. If you have followed anything about Warhammer you’ll also know that there are rumors saying that the North American subscription numbers are rumored to be below 100,000 and EU less than 90,000. Their “free expansion” is not very popular. If you’ve played the game you are most likely to think that the game is very poorly put together and things rarely make sense. We can go on, but now Mark Jacobs is gone and perhaps there is a little be of relief over there in Mythic’s studios?

In a recent news item put out through the War Herald, EA announces restructuring for the MMO and RPG groups.

EA is restructuring its RPG and MMO games development into a new group that includes both Mythic and BioWare. This newly formed team will be led by Ray Muzyka, co-founder and General Manager of BioWare. With this change, Ray becomes Group General Manager of the new RPG/MMO studio group. BioWare’s other co-founder, Greg Zeschuk will become Group Creative Officer for the new RPG/MMO studio group. Rob Denton will step up as General Manager of Mythic and report to Ray. BioWare’s studios remain unchanged and continue to report to Ray.

For you Bioware fans out there, make sure you read the bolded above; so this shouldn’t affect the continued development of SW:TOR.

Regarding Mark Jacobs co-founder and current General Manager of Mythic: “[He] will leave EA on June 23, 2009. We thank Mark for his contributions at Mythic and wish him the very best going forward. Mark played a major part in the success of Mythic with his contribution as General Manager and Lead Designer of WAR.”

What does this mean for the diminishing MMORPG WAR? There is no question that this MMOG has suffered after such a stellar debut. What changes can go into this game to re-attract gamers?
