Just recently, WAAAGH! Hammer got a chance to have the CEO and Lead Designer of Mythic, Mark Jacobs, answer some questions about the release of Warhammer Online as well with a few questions about his past and the future of the of Warhammer. We wanted to get in the head of Mark Jacobs and see where he is thinking the direction of the game is going and also to see if any of the ghosts of Dark Age of Camelot could haunt this game as well.

Well, after a busy week of full release, and a week and a half from the Collector Edition’s headstart, we can see what Mark Jacobs thinks about what’s happened and what’s to come.

WAAAGH! HAMMER: Prior to the release of Warhammer, what was one of the most important things you had to do in the last few weeks?

Mark Jacobs: Prior to release our major focus was on client issues such as crash to desktops. We also had to make sure that when we launched, nobody could park a truck on our Internet connection just like they did in 2001.

Mark Jacobs over at Warhammer Alliance updates us on a few growing concerns about the leveling curve and the balance and reliability of loot sources. Basically he’s saying, “Hey guys, it’s beta, we’re tweaking things, relax!”. Mark Jacobs through Warhammer Alliance updates us with some numbers and thoughts about open beta day one.

Few things that jumped out at me. 50,000 people online concurrently and 27 servers running. It looks like they are cranking out some changes and fixes here to make the game better. The three biggest problems we see complaints of in the community are crashes to desktop, mob pathing and hotbar ability loss. These things can’t happen come launch so we hope they are quick on the heals of these changes.

Also lets hope that the combat responsiveness continues to get tuned. Stay tuned for beta impressions from our staff.

Run for the hills! Hide the children! Mark Jacobs has started blogging!

Silliness aside, Mark Jacobs’ new blog is an interesting insight in the mind of the Sr. Developer for Warhammer Online. It’s an amazing source of information, especially for us news sites, and it’s directly from his keyboard.

Check it out when you can. Comments to follow.
