Announced today, Aion will begin sending out invitations to their beta preview weekend following E3. These invites will start going out soon for the June 5th event.

First Aion Beta Test Weekend Starts June 5
It’s almost time to spread your wings and take flight in Aion™!

Soon, NCsoft will formally invite select players and members of the press to the Aion beta test to play in the first Aion preview weekend.

The first Aion beta preview event, which begins after E3 2009, opens June 5, 2009 and runs through June 7, 2009. In this first event, beta testers will play Aion as the Elyos, who occupy the bottom half of Atreia, known as Elysea. Shortly afterward, more players will be invited to join in these beta events, with each event giving players a different taste of the game.

It appears they are doing a Warhammer-like approach to beta testing the game where people are given access to different parts of the game as the beta events progress, each time upping the beta population.

Keep an eye on your inboxes!

Producer Daniel Myers yesterday announced the closing of Matrix Online, an often overlooked MMOG.

In May 2004, I embarked upon a journey. I decided to take the red pill in a big way—I became the online community lead for The Matrix Online. Later that year, many of you joined me as you jacked in for the first time. It was a brand new world—a vision of online games that didn’t involve elves, spaceships, or dragons. We became part of the Matrix storyline; living our own adventures in the world painted by the movies.

It seems not so long ago I was jumping into Mara Central and going toe-to-toe with other devs at E3 2004. I had no idea this journey would take me to a whole different company, managing a major revision of the game, and my first producing gig. “Long, strange trip” doesn’t describe the half of it.

Now we’ve seen how far the rabbit hole goes and it’s time to wake up from that dream (or go back to sleep, depending how you look at it). On July 31, 2009, we will be jacking out for the last time. It’s a bittersweet moment for everyone involved with the game; as a player or as a developer.

This was one of Sony’s many MMOGs that have been attached to the Station Pass. Are they getting rid of one lesser played games to make room for the Agency?

There were a few news big titles to look forward to this summer. I was looking forward to a summer of sinking my teeth into Jumpgate Evolution and many others were ready to plunge into the world of Champions Online. Much to all of our disappointment both games are now slated for “later this year”. What are we supposed to do now?

The problem for me now is when Jumpgate is released it will coincide with Aion coming to North American shores. My mental prowess isn’t high enough to be able to concentrate on two MMOGs at once. Which one will win? I’ve played both, and both games are amazingly fun. Oh well. That’s in the future. Right now.. there isn’t anything to do.

Return of the Ice Dwarf Kingdom is the latest patch from Runes of Magic. With this update high level players will be able to revisit the Ice Dwarf Kingdom’s heroic parts.

With the 2nd Phase waiting in front of the huge gates of guild castles, guilds may begin to spent their harvested ressources to build special buildings in their courtyard. Together they will be able to create schools, gardens, stables or even powerful runetowers which will grant certain bonuses to all members e.g. a speed buff for mounts.

The patch notes will be released shortly. Also with this patch level 40 and 45 elite skills will be included!
